This year’s bitterly cold and extended winter here in the Mid-Atlantic pushed back the season for my favorite spring fruits. Local strawberries won’t be coming till the end of May and who knows when Jersey blueberries will be in season. Which is why, as I poked through the supermarket produce aisle, containers of plump, intensely hued blueberries beckoned to me, promising an early taste of their sweet tartness, if only courtesy of California.
